2010 Dominican College Men's Lacrosse Season Preview
The Dominican College men's lacrosse team open the 2010 NCAA Division II season with possibly their best squad ever from top to bottom. Thirteen talented freshmen and two transfers join an experienced group of returning players that persevered through a rough 2009 season.
Junior defenseman and captain, Dave Marrese and junior goal keeper Brendan Bonacum return to lead the defense. Marrese led all East Coast Conference (ECC) defensemen with 69 groundballs, while Bonacum led with 210 saves in 2009. Senior captain Chris Krutzler and junior Alex McKenna return to solidify a defense that will start consecutive season openers for the first time in program history. Freshman Shea Finn has earned the starting slot at long stick midfield position.
On attack Korin Pierce, who tallied 21 goals and eight assists last year, will look to build on a successful freshmen year. Senior captain Remo Montalbano returns after a season ending injury in 2009. Transfer Daniel Metoyer and junior Andrew Rendine complete the attack.
The midfield group returns junior captain Jesse Peterson and Alex Jones. Peterson, last year's recipient of the ECC Scholar Athlete of the Year award, registered seven goals and 16 assists in 2009. Jones was Dominican's first All-Conference Player in 2008 with 28 goals and five assists and returns to the team after a one year sabbatical to Europe. Returning players Tyler Douglas, Chris Jones and Mike Flynn will add experience and depth to the midfield, as will freshmen Connor Lawlor, Harlan Bernardo and transfer Mike Holl.
The Chargers open the 2010 season against Dominican University of California at Neptune HS in Neptune NJ, on March 7th. The home and ECC opener will be played on March 9th against Chestnut Hill University.
