ASSUMPTION GREYHOUNDS HANG ON FOR VICTORY OVER DOMINICAN LACROSSE

Orangeburg, NY (4/22/09)  The Dominican College men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference game to host Assumption College, 12-11 this afternoon.  With the victory Assumption improves to 7-7 overall, while Dominican falls to 2-10 on the season.

The Greyhounds opened up the game with two goals, before the Chargers went on a 4-0 run to take a 4-2 lead.  Freshman attacker Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) scored the first two goals off assists by Vincent DeCosta (Putnam Valley, NY) and Sean Murphy (Pearl River, NY).  Senior attacker Jeremy Arcaro (New Windsor, NY) netted the next two goals off passes from Pierce and Jesse Peterson (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan).

A Greyhound goal cut the lead to 4-3 with 0:43 seconds left in the first quarter, but sophomore midfielder Tyler Douglas (St. Albert, AB) closed out the quarter with a goal off the dish by Arcaro to rebuild a two goal lead, 5-3.

Assumption outscored Dominican 4-2 in the second quarter to tie the game 7-7 at the intermission.  Charger goals were scored by freshman Gabe Sutherland (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and Peterson.

In the third quarter Dominican scored a man up goal by Douglas off the assist by Arcaro as DC took an 8-7 lead.  Assumption closed out the third quarter with two straight goals to there first lead of the game, 9-7.

The Greyhounds built up a two goal lead with 11:32 to go in the fourth quarter, but sophomore attacker Andrew Rendine (River Edge, NJ) cut the lead to 10-9 with a goal off the pass from Pierce.  Assumption went on a 2-0 spurt to rebuild a 12-9 lead and the Chargers closed out the game with a 2-0 run for the 12-11 Greyhound victory.  Rendine netted his second goal of the game and Arcaro completed the hatrick with his 23rd goal of the season off the assist by Sutherland.

Arcaro led the Chargers with five points (three goals, two assists), while Pierce finished with four points (two goals, two assists).  Peterson, Rendine and Douglas all had two points a piece in the loss.  Goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) tallied 20 saves.
