DOWLING COLLEGE TURNS BACK DOMINICAN COLLEGE

Orangeburg, NY (4/8/09)  The Dowling College Lions lacrosse team turned back the visiting Dominican College Chargers, 17-2 this afternoon in East Coast Conference (ECC) men's lacrosse action.

The Lions kept the Chargers scoreless through the first and second quarters as they went on offensive run of eight consecutive goals to build an 8-0 lead.  Dominican broke the drought with a goal in the first minute of the third quarter as freshman midfielder Gabe Sutherland (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) netted the unassisted goal.

Dowling went on a 9-0 run to build up a 17-1 lead, but the Chargers managed a goal in the final minute of the game off the stick of senior Jeremy Arcaro (New Windsor, NY) from the pass from Jesse Peterson (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) for the final 17-2 Lion victory.

Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) made 10 saves in 47 minutes of action, while Tim Manzella (Riverhead, NY) made three saves in the final 12 minutes.

With the victor Dowling improves to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the ECC, while Dominican falls to 2-8 overall and 0-4 in the ECC.
