ADELPHI PANTHERS DEFEAT CHARGERS LACROSSE

Orangeburg, NY (3/28/09) The visiting Panthers from Adelphi University defeated the Dominican College Chargers, 14-7 in East Coast Conference (ECC) men's lacrosse action from the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
AU started off the game with two goals in the first quarter and scored two more in the second to take a 4-0 lead when sophomore attacker Andrew Rendine (River Edge, NJ) netted a goal off the pass by midfielder Gabe Sutherland (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan). DC cut the lead in half when senior Jeremy Arcaro (New Windsor, NY) netted the unassisted goal to make the score, 4-2. The Panthers closed out the first half with a goal to rebuild a 5-2 lead.
The Chargers opened up the first minute of the third quarter with a goal by junior Dan Celebre (Lake Grove, NY) off the pass by attacker Jesse Peterson (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) to once again cut the AU lead to two, 5-3. AU went on a 2-0 spurt before Celebre struck for his second goal of the game off another assist by Peterson to make the score 7-4.
The Panthers pounced with a 4-0 run late in the third quarter to take an 11-4 lead, but the Chargers closed out the third quarter with two goals, one by senior James Murphy (Pearl River, NY) and another by Rendine to make the score 11-6. Celebre and Peterson had the assists on the goals.
DC netted the first goal of the fourth quarter as Peterson netted the unassisted goal, but AU closed out the game with a 3-0 run to go on to the 14-7 victory.
Peterson led the Chargers with four points (1 goal, 3 assists), while Celebre finished with three points (2 goals, 1 assist). DC goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) had 14 saves in the loss.
With the win Adelphi improves to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the ECC, while the Chargers fall to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the ECC.
