MEN'S LACROSSE TAB FIRST WIN OF SEASON OVER AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE

Orangeburg, NY (3/25/09)  The Dominican College men's lacrosse team picked up their first win of the season after defeating American International College, 17-7 in a non-conference game held at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

The Chargers opened up the scoring in the first quarter with three unanswered goals.  Junior midfielder Sean Murphy (Pearl River, NY) netted the game's first goal off the pass by sophomore Jesse Peterson (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan).  Freshman Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) netted an unassisted goal, while freshman Gabe Sutherland (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) found the net off the dish by Pierce as DC took a 3-0 lead.

Dominican dominated in the second quarter with a 4-0 run to take a 7-1 lead into intermission.  Murphy netted his second goal of the game off the pass by PierceDan Celebre (Lake Grove, NY) picked up a goal off the assist from Peterson and Sutherland netted his second goal of the game as Peterson notched his third assist of the game.  Senior attacker Jeremy Arcaro (New Windsor, NY) closed out the quarter with an unassisted goal.

The Yellow Jackets outscored the Chargers 4-3 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 10-5.  Charger goals were scored by Sutherland, Pierce and James Murphy (Pearl River, NY), while Peterson and Arcaro each had an assist.

Arcaro and Peterson scored goals to open up the fourth quarter to give DC a 12-5 lead before AIC stopped the run with a goal.  Dominican charged back with a 4-0 run as Arcaro netted two more goals, Peterson picked up his second goal of the game and Christopher Jones (Saugerties, NY) netted a goal.  Pierce closed out the scoring with a goal with under a minute to go as the Chargers charged ahead with the 17-7 win.

Peterson and Arcaro led Dominican with six points each as Peterson had two goals and four assists and Arcaro had four goals and two assists.  Pierce finished with five points (three goals, two assists) and Sutherland finished with four points (three goals, one assist).

Goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) had 14 saves in 57:20, while Tim Manzella (Riverhead, NY) had one save in the final 2:40.

With the win Dominican improves to 1-5 overall.
