#3 C.W. POST PIONEERS TURN BACK CHARGERS LACROSSE

Brookville, NY (3/23/09) The #3 C.W. Post University Pioneers turned back the visiting Dominican College Chargers, 19-5, in East Coast Conference (ECC) men's lacrosse action this afternoon.
The Pioneers got on the board in the first minute of action as senior Greg Cerar (Farmingdale, NY) netted the goal of the pass from Nicholas Coric (Walnut Creek, CA). C.W. Post then went on a 6-0 run to close the first quarter with a commanding 7-0 lead.
The Pioneers held a 9-0 lead when DC got on the board as freshman Gabe Sutherland (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) netted a goal off the dish from senior James Murphy (Pearl River, NY) to make the score 9-1. C.W. Post closed out the second quarter with another offensive tear, scoring seven consecutive goals to go up 16-1.
DC outscored the Pioneers 2-1 in the third quarter as senior attacker Jeremy Arcaro (New Windsor, NY) scored a goal in the first 21 seconds of the third quarter off the pass from freshman Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA). After the C.W. Post goal, Dominican closed out the third quarter with a goal by sophomore Andrew Rendine (River Edge, NJ) off the pass from Sutherland as the Pioneers held a 17-3 lead.
Sutherland opened up the fourth quarter with his second goal of the game off the pass by junior Dan Celebre (Lake Grove, NY) and cut the lead to 17-4. The Pioneers went on a 2-0 run before Celebre netted the game's final goal off the assist by Arcaro as C.W. post went on to the 17-5 victory.
Charger goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) made 16 saves in the net in 45 minutes of action, while Tim Manzella (Riverhead, NY) had one save in 15 minutes.
With the win C.W. Post improves to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the ECC, while Dominican falls to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the ECC.
Dominican is back in action on Wednesday as they host American International College in a non-conference game slated to begin at 4pm at Torne Valley Sports Complex.
