MEN'S LACROSSE LOSE TO ST. ANDREWS PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE

Laurinburg, NC (3/12/09)  The Dominican College men's lacrosse team lost a non-conference game to St. Andrews Presbyterian College, 15-8 this afternoon.  The loss drops the Chargers to 0-2 overall, while the Knights improve to 2-5 overall.

The contest was tied two times early with the teams traded the first four goals but senior Kyle Loda (Vienna, VA) put St. Andrews ahead for the rest of the game with a goal on an assist from Ryan Hoover (Arnold, MD) with just over two minutes left in the first quarter. The Knights once again outscored the visitors 3-2 in the second quarter to build a 6-4 halftime advantage. SAPC never trailed in the game.

The Knights pulled away with a dominating 8-2 third quarter that included a pair of goals by Marcus Kirby (Greensboro, NC) in a one minute span and two EMO goals by Nick Lewnes (Arnold, MD).  Senior Ethan Young (Hilliard, OH) capped the third period outburst with his first goal of the season to increase the Knights lead to eight goals, 14-6, heading into the last stanza. Dominican produced two of the fourth quarter's three goals but St. Andrews still coasted to the seven-goal victory.

SAPC dominated play with a 56-32 shot advantage and a 53-42 ground ball edge while also winning 18-of-25 face offs. The Knights were 3-of-7 on extra-man opportunities while Dominican was 1-of-4.

Sophomore starting goalkeeper Patrick Wade (West Windsor, NJ) picked up his second win of the season allowing six goals over 53 minutes of work while making 13 saves. Freshman backup Morgan Jennings (Poway, CA) made two stops in the final seven minutes.

Freshman Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) scored a game-high four goals for the winless Chargers.  Fello freshman Gabe Sutherland (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) provided the Chargers with three points (2 goals, 1 assist).

Sophomore goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) made a game-high 15 saves.

Dominican is back in action on Saturday when they take on Pfeiffer University in a non-conference game slated to begin at 1pm.
