Dowling Chosen As Men's Lacrosse Pre-Season Number 1
Harrison, NY (2/28/07) 2006 National Runner-up Dowling College has been selected to claim first place in the 2007 East Coast Conference Mens Lacrosse race, according to the preseason poll of ECC coaches. Dowling received five of the seven first place votes cast, and Mercyhurst College garnered the other two first place nods. Following Dowling and Mercyhurst in the ECC poll are NYIT in third place and Adelphi in the fourth slot. Molloy (fifth), C.W. Post (sixth) and Dominican (NY) (seventh) complete the preseason predicted order of finish.

Harrison, NY- February 28, 2007 – 2006 National Runner-up Dowling College has been selected to claim first place in the 2007 East Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse race, according to the preseason poll of ECC coaches. Dowling received five of the seven first place votes cast, and Mercyhurst College garnered the other two first place nods. Following Dowling and Mercyhurst in the ECC poll are NYIT in third place and Adelphi in the fourth slot. Molloy (fifth), C.W. Post (sixth) and Dominican (NY) (seventh) complete the preseason predicted order of finish.
Dowling senior midfielder CJ Leary (Bayshore, NY) is the coaches’ preseason Player of the Year selection. A First Team All-American and All-Conference selection in 2006, Leary scored 27 goals and had 14 assists for 41 in helping the Golden Lions to the national title game.
The coaches recognized 12 players on the 2007 ECC Men’s Lacrosse Preseason All-Conference Team.
At the attack position, junior Ryan Campbell (Brampton, Ontario) and seniors Scott Jansen (New Westminster, B.C.) of Mercyhurst and Dom Toscano (Bethpage, NY) of Molloy earned preseason All-Conference honors.
Joining Leary at the midfield position are seniors Dan Lamonica (Oceanside, NY) of Molloy and Mercyhurst’s Adam Mulherin (Syracuse, NY).
Seniors Joe Thon (Penfield, NY) of Mercyhurst and Bill Brown (N. Babylon, NY) of Molloy are the coaches’ selection at long stick and the specialist spots respectively.
On defense, seniors Rob Blount (Inwood, NY) of C.W. Post and Vin Funaro (Patchogue, NY) of Dowling and sophomore Matt Spahr (Media, PA) have been selected to the preseason All-ECC squad.
Dowling’s junior goalkeeper Nick Tracey (Farmingville, N.Y) rounds out the preseason All-Conference team.

The East Coast Conference was formed to enhance intercollegiate athletic competition among NYCAC member institutions and to assist them in integrating athletics into their academic program in a fiscally sound way.
