CHARGERS HANG ON FOR VICTORY OVER FELICIAN COLLEGE

Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/18/14)  The Dominican College men's basketball team defeated the visiting Golden Falcons of Felician College, 90-83, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division battle held at the Hennessy Center.  With the victory tonight, DC has now scored 90 or more points seven times this season.

Felician opened the game with the first three points, but Dominican charged back with a 12-2 run to pull ahead 15-5 with 14:33 left in the first half and would extend their lead to as many as 13 points (38-25) with just over three minutes left.  A FC trey cut the lead to 40-33 at the intermission.

Dominican led 57-49 when the Golden Falcons rattled off eight straight points to knot the score at 57-57.  Chargers A.J. Burton (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Johnathan Brown (Central Islip, N.Y.) regained the lead for DC after scoring nine of the next 11 points to make the score 66-59 with just over eight minutes remaining.

With under five minutes to play, Felician cut the lead to a single point twice but two free throws from sophomore guard Joe Clinton (Pearl River, N.Y.) with 1:35 on the clock made the score 82-75 and the Chargers closed out the win, shooting 8-10 from the charity stripe (with Burton going 7-8) for the 90-83 win.

Junior Nick Smith (Middletown, N.Y.) paced three Chargers in double figures with 29 points (12-17 from the floor) and tallying seven rebounds.

Burton finished with 19 points (10-12 from the foul line) and six caroms off the bench, while Robert Hueston (Middletown, N.Y.) added 12 points in the win.

Clinton finished with a career high and night best 10 assists to go along with seven points.

With the win, Dominican improves to 16-7 overall and 12-4 in conference play.

DC will take on Post University Thursday night on Coach Baxter Court.
