MEN'S BASKETBALL CHARGES PAST CALDWELL COLLEGE
Caldwell, NJ (2/16/12) The Dominican College men's basketball team improved to 16-8 overall and 9-7 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a 79-57 victory over host, Caldwell College, this evening in a game played at the George R. Newman Center. The loss drops the Cougars to 13-12 overall and 8-10 in conference competition.
Caldwell, NJ (2/16/12) The Dominican College men's basketball team improved to 16-8 overall and 9-7 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a 79-57 victory over host, Caldwell College, this evening in a game played at the George R. Newman Center. The loss drops the Cougars to 13-12 overall and 8-10 in conference competition.
Dominican opened the first stanza with 14 consecutive points, with 10 of those points coming from junior center Cory Quimby* (Otisville, NY). The Chargers closed out the first half with a 5-0 run to take a commandin 40-20 lead at the intermission.
DC never lost a double-digit lead in the second half and led by as many as 27 points (66-39) with 9:55 remaining en route to the 22 points victory.
Quimby led all scorers with 22 points (7-9 from the floor) and finished with the game's only double-double as he tallied 12 rebounds.
Guard Leon Porter II* (Laurel, MD) netted 18 points, six assists and five rebounds in the victory, while Daniel Woods (Upper Marlboro, MD) came off the bench to score 12 points, shooting 5-7 from the floor.
The victory currently put the Chargers in tie with Post University for second place in the CACC North Division. The top two teams in the North and South Division will earn first-round home games in the upcoming CACC Tournament. Both teams still have two conference games to play, although Dominican would hold the tie-breaker over Post University as they had previously beaten them twice this season.
DC is back in action on Saturday as they host Holy Family University in a CACC contest scheduled for 3pm on Coach Baxter Court.
