MEN'S BASKETBALL FALL TO UNIVERSITY OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
Washington, DC (12/30/11) The Dominican College men's basketball team fell to host, the University of the District of Columbia, 74-63, this afternoon in a non-conference game. With the loss the Chargers fall to 6-4 overall, while the Firebirds improve to 10-1 on the season.

Dominican led 9-7 with 14:40 left in the first stanza when the Firebirds went on an 18-4 run, spanning over a period of five minutes to claim a 25-13 advantage. DC cut the lead to three points (31-28) on a three point basket from senior Michael Calzonetti (Gloucester, NJ) with 4:16 left, but UDC rebuilt a seven point lead (40-33) at the intermission.
Calzonetti hit another trey to start off the second half scoring to bring DC within four points (40-36), but the Firebirds answered back, quickly rebuilding a 10 point lead and led by as many as 22 points (73-51) with 4:22 left to play.
A 7-0 Charger run led by A.J. Burton (New Rochelle, NY), who scored five of those points made the score 73-58 with just over two minutes remaining, but the Firebirds went on to the 74-63 victory.
Center Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY) led three Chargers in double figures with 17 points and a team leading six rebounds. Calzonetti finished with 10 points, while Burton was strong off the bench with 15 points (4-6 from the floor, 3-4 from three point arc, 4-4 from the line) in 12 minutes of action.
DC returns to action on Monday, January 2nd when they take on Dowling College in the second game of the 6th Annual James Clancy Memorial Tournament to be played at the Hennessy Center at 8pm.
