Sparkill, NY (12/17/11) Junior guard Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) scored his 1,000th career point in the second half as the Dominican College men's basketball team defeated host, St. Thomas Aquinas College, 79-75, this afternoon in a non-conference game. With the victory, Dominican improves to 6-3 overall, while the Spartans fall to 2-7 overall.

The Chargers held a 24-20 lead with 9:50 left in the first stanza, when the Spartans came back with a 12-9 run to take a 32-29 advantage with 4:29 on the clock and held on for a 38-36 lead at the break.
St. Thomas Aquinas led 57-52 with just under twelve minutes to play, but the Chargers came back to later tie the game at 66-all with 4:27 to play. A 5-1 Charger run by forward DaVonne Dunlap (Kingston, NY) regained the lead for Dominican, 71-67, with 3 minutes to go in regulation.
DC led by a point (72-71) when Porter scored a layup with 1:47 on the play to not only give Dominican a three point advantage, but score his 1,000th career point. STAC came back to hold a 75-74 lead with 41 ticks on the clock, but Porter went on a 4-0 run of his own as hit scored a layup and hit two free throws to give Dominican a 78-75 lead with 0: 16 on the clock. Dunlap ended the game with a free throw for the final 79-75 victory.
Junior center Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY) led four Chargers in double figures with a double-double of 27 points and a game leading 12 rebounds. Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, NY) scored 18 points, shooting 4-5 from the three point arc, and Dunlap finished with 15 points. Porter finished with 10 points and a team leading five assists.
Dominican returns to action on Friday, December 30th when they travel to the University of the District of Columbia for a 2pm non-conference game.
