MEN'S BASKETBALL EXTEND WINNING STREAK WITH VICTORY OVER ST. THOMAS AQUINAS COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (11/19/11) The Dominican College men's basketball team extended their winning streak to four straight games as they defeated the visiting Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College, 71-54, this evening in the finale of the Dominican College TIp-Off Tournament played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Earlier, Molloy College upended Nyack College, 73-67.
The contest was tied 20-20 with 3:40 remaining in the first half when back-to-back layups from Michael Calzonetti* (Gloucester, NJ) and Leon Porter* (Laurel, MD) put them ahead 24-20. Two free throws from sophomore Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, NY) gave Dominican a 26-20 lead and Porter followed with two more shots from the charity stripe to go up 28-20. After a Spartan basket, center Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY) hit a layup and completed the and-one play with the free throw to head into the break with a 31-22 lead.
The Chargers never trailed in the second stanza and led by as many as 21 points (66-45) with 3:36 left in the game. DC closed out the game with the final three points on a free throw by Porter and a layup by Daniel Woods (Upper Marlboro, MD) for the final 71-54 score.
Porter led four Chargers in double figures with 23 points, five assists and four steals. Quimby finished with his fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and a game leading 15 rebounds. Ginyard and DaVonne Dunlap (Kingston, NY) each added 10 points a piece in the victory.
With the win Dominican improves to 4-0 on the seaon.
DC returns to action on November 30th when they take on Caldwell College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game. Game time is 8pm on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
