MEN'S BASKETBALL BEAT GOLDEY-BEACOM COLLEGE

Orangeburg, NY (2/2710) The Dominican College men's basketball team wrapped up the 2010 regular season by beating host Goldey-Beacom College, 70-65, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.

The Chargers were hot from the opening tip as they built up a 19-6 lead en route to a 36-28 halftime lead.

GBC rallied in the second half cutting the Charger lead to three points (45-42) with 12:39 to go in the contest. Back-to-back Dominican layups rebuilt a seven point advantage, but the Lightning battled back to cut the lead to two points (60-58) with 2:52 left in regulation. An and-one play byt GBC cut the lead to 62-61, but a trey from Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) gave the Chargers a 64-62 and they never looked back en route to the 70-65 victory.

Freshman guard Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) led four Chargers in double figures with 17 points, five rebounds and five assists. Sophomore forward Mike Calzonetti (Gloucester, NJ) netted a career high 16 points and tallied four assists, while junior center Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) added 13 points and grabbed a team leading seven rebounds. Senior shooter Brendan McManus (Pearl River, NY) added 10 points in the victory.

Senior guard Kyle White (Georgetown, DE) led all scorers with 27 points, while Samuel McDuffie (Bronx, NY) added 17 points in the loss.

With the victory Dominican improves to 14-15 overall and 10-8 in the CACC, while Goldey-Beacom College falls to 17-9 overall and 11-6 in the CACC.

Dominican returns to action on Monday night in the quarter-finals of the CACC Tournament. Game time will be set for 7pm as they take the #2 seed in the North Division, Felician College in Lodi, NJ.
