Blauvelt, NY (1/10/08) After trailing in the first half, the Dominican College men's basketball team rallied to defeat the visiting Caldwell College Cougars, 80-77 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

Blauvelt, NY (1/10/08) After trailing in the first half, the Dominican College men's basketball team rallied to defeat the visiting Caldwell College Cougars, 80-77 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Caldwell jumped out to a 18-10 lead early in the first half, courtesy of a 10-3 run. DC cut the lead to one at 11:45 on a layup by Brendan McManus (Pearl River, NY) but the Cougars rebounded with a 7-2 run to go up 26-19 with 9:28 in the half. The Chargers once again was within one point with 1:11 left on a bucket by freshman Tim Matchett (Pitman, NJ) and went up 37-76 on two shots from the charity stripe from Brandon Brock (Newburgh, NY). Cougar Tyler Emmons (Portland, ME) tipped in a shot at the buzzer to put CC ahead 38-37.
Dominican jumped out to a 48-41 lead to start the second half but the Cougars made another run to tie the game at 48-48.
Up 78-74 on a basket by freshman Kris Knez (Astoria, NY) with 0:57 seconds remaining, Caldwell once again came back on a big three point shot by senior B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY) to cut the DC lead to one point, 78-77. After a DC turnover, the Cougars missed a shot which forced them to foul and send Brock to line with 0:07 seconds to go in regulation. He sunk both free throws as Dominican won 80-77.
Brock, Will Carty (Bronx, NY) and
Knez all netted 13 points for Dominican in the
win, with Knez adding eight rebounds.
McManus finished with 12 points, while senior
Shelton Gibbs (Jersey City, NJ) had ten points and
four steals.
The Cougars were led by Suchy with 22 points. Junior Manny Perez (Egg Harbor Twp, NJ) netted 15 points and seven caroms in the loss. Sophomore Eddie Crockett (Passaic, NJ) had 10 points off the bench.
With the win, Dominican improves to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the CACC, while Caldwell falls to 5-10 overall and 3-2 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action next Thursday when they travel to CACC rival, Nyack College. Tip-off time is set for 8pm at Bowman Gymnasium.
