Blauvelt, NY (1/5/07)  As the game clock expired in overtime; freshman guard Kevin Whaley (York, Pa.) buried a three-point field goal from the corner to land the Griffins their first win of the season. The men's basketball team trailed by five, 37-32, at the break and Dominican College tied the affair with the expiration of regulation on a tip-in from junior forward Henry Elegar (Bronx, NY). Whaley put the nail in the College's first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) basketball triumph with his buzzer beater that placed the Griffins past Dominican College 84-83 this evening.

A pair of free throws from freshman guard Brandon Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) tied the contest 81-81 with ten seconds remaining in overtime. A Griffin foul placed junior guard Jonathan Guzman (Rutherford, NJ) at the line for Dominican College (6-6, 1-1). Guzman hit both, but sophomore guard Bryant Lennon (Philadelphia, Pa.) took the ball the length of the court in the final eight seconds before finding Whaley for the game-winning basket. Carrying the Griffins through a majority of the contest, Williams and freshman forward Trenton Davidheiser (Pottstown, Pa.) combined for 47 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Davidheiser led all scorers with a career-high 26 points on 10-of-15 (66.7%) shooting; he also led the Griffins with eight rebounds. Williams totaled 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while collecting four rebounds, and five assists. Whaley finished with 11 points in his first collegiate start, winning the game on his lone converted three-point attempt. Sophomore forward Larz Jeter (Philadelphia, Pa.) put it the hustle off the bench for Chestnut Hill College (1-9, 1-1), finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.

Guzman
was the top scorer for the Chargers, finishing the contest with 20 points. Junior guard Brandon Brock (Newburgh, NY) totaled 17 while handing out six assists and making three steals before fouling out in overtime. Elegar led Dominican College on the boards collecting nine, as junior guard James Mosser (Stanley, VA) provided 13 points off the bench.

Dominican is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Wilmington University in CACC men's basketball action.  Game time is 8pm.
