Anderson, Santos Pace Mavericks To Victory
Mankato, Minn. The 19th-ranked Minnesota State men's basketball team downed Dominican College 81-44 in the second and final game of the 2006 Pepsi Tip-Off Saturday night. The Mavericks who shot a blistering 56.5% from the floor were led by senior guard Luke Anderson, who tallied 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting.

Anderson, who tallied 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting.
Both teams traded baskets over the first nine minutes before
Dominican's Prince Jackson (Schenectady,
NY) knocked down a three-point basket to cut the MSU
lead to 16-13 with 10:58 remaining in the half. The Mavericks would
push a seven-point cushion until DC's Will Carty (Bronx,
NY) connected on a three to cut the lead to 22-18
with 6:50 remaining in the half. Minnesota State then closed out
the first half with a 14-5 scoring burst to push a 36-23 advantage
at the break. Anderson highlighted the run with seven points.
Junior forward Atila
Santos knocked down back-to-back jumpers to open the second
half, as MSU would push its lead to 20 and never look back. Santos
finished the game with 17 points on 7-of-11 scoring. He also
tallied nine rebounds and four blocks to compliment his four
assists. Santos was named the MVP of the Tip-Off. He was also the
tournament's leading rebounder with 18 boards over the two-game
stretch.
Anderson, finished the weekend with 39 points, and was the leading
scorer of the tournament. Redshirt freshman Jesse
Clark took home the Best Hustle and the Most Assists Award as
he passed out 10 dimes on the weekend. Sophomore guard Jake
Morrow also tallied double-digits, scoring 15 points on 6-of-8
shooting, including a 2-of-3 effort from beyond the arch.
Jackson finished with 14 points, while
Carty finished with 13 points.
In the day's other action, Minnesota Duluth downed Felician,
74-62.
