Dominican Wins Spartan September Showdown

Blauvelt, NY (9/9/06) The Dominican College men’s golf team opened up the 2006-07 season by winning the Spartan September Showdown yesterday at the Phillip J. Rotella Golf Course in Thiells, NY.

Blauvelt, NY (9/9/06)  The Dominican College men's golf team opened up the 2006-07 season by winning the Spartan September Showdown yesterday at the Phillip J. Rotella Golf Course in Thiells, NY.

Dominican shot a combined score of 308 on the afternoon to beat out nine other schools in the tournament, including St. Thomas Aquinas College who in a tie with Pace University for second place with a 314 score.  Goldey-Beacom College finished in fourth place with a score of 315, followed by Post University with a 318, University of Massachusetts-Lowell with a 327 score, Adelphi University with a 329 score and Dowling College and The College of St. Rose who each finished with a final score of 333.

Justin Jacaruso (Suffern, NY) shot a 74 on the day to put him in a tie for second place.  Junior Brian Mackey (Chestnut Ridge, NY) finished in a tie with fellow Charger Tony Viola (Pomona, NY) for sixth place with a 76, while A. J. Lee (Nanuet, NY) and Corey Stone (East Syracuse, NY) each finished in the top thirty on the day.

The golf team is back in action next weekend when they travel to Dowling College for their annual September Shoot out on September 16-17 at Long Island National Golf Course
