Pomona, N.Y. (4/7/17)  The Dominican College baseball squad split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host, Concordia College, in games played this afternoon at the Palisades Credit Union Park.  The Chargers edged the Clippers 7-6 in the opening game, while Concordia topped the visitors, 8-4.

Game One:  Concordia led 6-0 after four innings of play, but the Chargers got on the board in the fifth as right fielder Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) hit a two-run single.

DC added two more runs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly ball from Max Franzone (Nanuet, N.Y.) and a fielder's choice.  The Chargers scored three runs in the eighth as Colon hit a two out three-run triple to give them the 7-6 win.

Colon had two hits and three RBIs in the game.

Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) also had two hits.

Arben Becaj (Brooklyn, N.Y.) picked up the win in three innings of relief, while Nicholas Galese (Totowa, N.J.) recorded his first save of the season.

Game Two:  Dominican jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third on an error and a two-run double off the bat of Arbely Soto (Bronx, N.Y.).

Concordia got a run back in the bottom stanza and took the lead in the fifth with four runs to pull ahead 5-3.

DC scored a run in the sixth on a ground out to cut the lead to 5-4, but the Clippers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 8-4 win.

Soto had two runs batted in in the loss.

Nathanial Popiel (Mechanicville, N.Y.) suffered the loss (1-3) in five and 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) on nine hits and six strikeouts.

With the split, Dominican is now 10-13 overall and 5-5 in conference play.
