2012-13 Dominican College Baseball Season Summary
The Dominican College baseball team finished the 2013 season with an overall record of 28-22 and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record of 16-4. The team made their 28th appearance in the 29-year history of the program in the CACC Tournament after garnishing the second seed. The Chargers made three appearances in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region poll, with all three appearances being in the tenth spot.
In the second round of the CACC Tournament, the team fell to the sixth-seeded Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 10-1 to go into the loser’s bracket. Facing elimination, Dominican lost to the Felician College Golden Falcons, the fifth seed in the tournament, 2-0 to end their season.
Senior right-fielder, Tony Blake, led team in on-base percentage, triples and runs batted in. Blake also ranked third on the team in hits. This season he led CACC in triples and walks, ranked third in runs scored, 4th in conference in RBIs and 7th in stolen bases. Blake was named to the All-CACC First Team and was selected as an ECAC All-Star.
Teammates Peter Martinez and Dylan Ebel were also named to the All-CACC First Team after stellar seasons. Martinez, a sophomore pitcher, was tied for third in CACC and led the team in wins, second in conference in complete games, sixth in ERA eighth in innings pitched and 11th in strikeouts. Ebel, a freshman infielder, ranked third in the CACC in triples, ninth in runs scored and stolen bases, 15th in runs batted in and walks,10th in on-base percentage and 19th in slugging percentage.
First basemen, Andrew Camardella, led the team in runs scored, while finishing second in hits and doubles. He ranked 2nd in CACC in runs scored, 7th in on-base percentage, 9th in runs batted in, 11th in hits and 15th in batting average. He also was named to the All-CACC Second Team.
Freshman designated hitter, Carlos Lopez, led the team in batting average hits and doubles, while finishing second in slugging percentage. He ranked 8th in the CACC in batting average, 6th in doubles and saves, 8th in hits, 11th in runs scored and on-base percentage and 12th in slugging percentage. For his efforts he was named to the All-CACC Second Team and was selected as an ECAC All-Star.
Catcher Tyler Clark, was named to the All-CACC Second Team after finishing in the top 25 in CACC in batting, tied for 3rd in home runs, fourth in slugging percentage, ranked 9th in triples and 14th in stolen bases. He led the team in slugging percentage.
Sophomore Oliver Christensen was also named to the All-CACC Second Team. He ranked 12th in CACC in hits and batting average, 14th in stolen bases and 18th in runs batted in. He is also second on the team in batting average. He was also named to the Daktronics All-East Region Second Team.
Players Kyle Hall and Peter Ginter were the recipients of the Co-Coach’s Award.
The team will graduate four seniors this season: Camardella, Blake, Caleb Whiteley and Richard Leachy.
