#1 CHARGERS BASEBALL TOPS PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY

Orangeburg, NY (4/17/09)  The Dominican College baseball team, currently ranked #1 in the NCAA East Region, topped Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Philadelphia University, 2-1 in 12 innings this afternoon at Veteran's Memorial Park.

The Chargers got on the board in the bottom of the third as designated hitter Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY) hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field to score left fielder Jason Berrios (Brooklyn, NY).

The Rams tied the game in the top of the ninth on the RBI sacrifice fly ball to center by junior Tyler Mentzer (Gettsburg, PA).

In the bottom of the eleventh freshman center fielder Alexi Colon (Millville, NJ) received a one-out walk and later scored on the infield single by freshman Xavier Bonilla (Bronx, NY) to lift the team to a 2-1 victory.

Freshman Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) picked up his first collegiate win, allowing just one hit in the eleventh inning.  Starter Tom Kahl (Bay Shorean, NY) went nine innings, allowing one run on five hits and 11 Ram strikeouts.

With the victory Dominican improves to 23-9 overall and 11-5 in the CACC.

DC completes the season series as they travel to Philadelphia University tomorrow afternoon.
