CHARGERS BASEBALL SPLITS WITH CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE

Philadelphia, PA (4/12/08)  The Chargers baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with Chestnut Hill College this evening.  The Griffins won the first game, 7-5, while the Chargers won the night cap, 10-0 to win two out of the three game series this season.

Game One: Chestnut Hill jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth, but the Chargers rallied for a five run fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead.  Jonathan Ryan (Troy, NY) had an RBI groundout and Willie Mann (Patterson, NY) scored on a Griffin error.  Senior Sean Brown's (Massapequa, NY) ground rule double platted two runs and Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to put DC ahead.

The Griffins added a run in the bottom stanza to cut the lead to 5-4 and added three runs in the sixth as they went on to the 7-5 win.

Freshman Jack Crawford (Montgomery, NY) took the loss in 1 1/3 innings of work, allowing three runs on three hits.  Starter Anthony Luciano (Holtsville, NY) went 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits in the no decision.

Game two: Game two was all DC as they scored a run in the second on a fielder's choice by Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ).  They tacked on three runs in the third as Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) doubled to left field to score a run and Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY) doubled to center to score another run.  A third double by Ryan platted another runner to give the Chargers a 3-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, the Chargers erupted for five runs as Mann had a two run single and Ryan homered to left center to clear the bases and extend the DC lead to 9-0.

A run in the seventh on an error gave DC the 10-0 victory.

Senior Michael Mondesir (Jamaica, NY) picked up the win (2-2) after pitching five innings, scattering just three hits and striking out nine batters.

With the split, Dominican impoves to 16-18 overall and 8-6 in the CACC, while the Griffins now stand at 6-20 overall and 4-9 in the CACC.
