BASEBALL RALLIES TO WIN SECOND GAME TO SPLIT WITH ASSUMPTION COLLEGE

Worcester, MA (3/30/08)  The Dominican College baseball team rallied after losing the first game to salvage a split with Assumption College in a non-conference double-header this afternoon.  The Greyhounds won the first game, 5-4 in the thirteenth inning, while the Chargers took the second game, 4-0.

Game one: DC got on the board in the top of the first as Sean Brown (Massapequa, NY) led off the game with a single and moved to second on a failed pick off attempt.  Freshman Michael Munoz's (Bronx, NY)  double to left field plated Brown and Munoz scored on the RBI single to left by Marc Mortellaro (Middletown, NY).

DC added a run in the second on the RBI sacrifice fly to left field by Brown who scored Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) who led off the inning with a single.

The Greyhounds got on the board in the second with a run and added three runs in the third to take a 4-3 lead.  The Chargers tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the eighth as Phil Kramsky (Glendale, WI) singled home Jonathan Ryan (Troy, NY).

The game went to extra innings as Assumption netted the game winning run in the bottom of the thirteenth on a RBI single.  Charger reliever Corey Murphy (Melville, NY) took the loss in 6 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on seven hits and five strikeouts.

Game two:  Dominican again attacked early, scoring two runs in the first inning.  Brown led off the game with a single and stole second base.  With two on and two out, Willie Mann (Patterson, NY) singled to right field to score both runs and take an early 2-0 lead.

The Chargers added a run in the second on the RBI single by Ryan to score Lopez and added a fourth run in the seventh as Munoz's single to left center to plate Ryan and give DC the 4-0 victory.

Anthony Luciano (Holtsville, NY) picked up his first collegiate shut out win in 7 2/3 innings of work allowing five hits and five Greyhound strikeouts.

With the split the Chargers improve to 9-13, while the Greyhounds are now 8-10.
