BASEBALL SCORES FOUR RUNS IN NINTH TO DEFEAT PACE UNIVERSITY 

Pleasantville, NY (3/26/08)  The Dominican College baseball team used a four run ninth inning lift them to a 7-5 victory over host Pace University in a non-conference game this afternoon at Finnerty Field in Pleasantville, NY.

Pace held a 1-0 lead after three innings when DC struck for a three run top of the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead.  Jonathan Ryan (Troy, NY) led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a Pace error which allowed Sean Brown (Massapequa, NY) to reach base.  Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases and Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY) singled to left field to score two runs.  Marc Mortellaro (Middletown, NY) followed with a double to right field to score Maloney and give Dominican the 3-1 advantage.

Pace added runs in the fourth and fifth innings to knot the game at 3-3 going into the top of the ninth.  Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) received a one out walk and moved to second on a two out single by Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY).  After a passed ball by the catcher allowed Ryan to reach first, Brown followed with an RBI infield single to score LopezMaloney singled to left center to score Robinson and Ryan and Brown later scored on a throwing error by the Pace second basemen to give the Chargers a 7-3 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth Pace added two runs on four hits to cut the lead to 7-5.  Charger reliever Dominick Ruscitti (Washingtonville, NY) got the win to improve to 1-1 after throwing five innings of relief and allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits.  Starter Michael Mondesir (Jamaica, NY) went three innings with three hits, one run and four strikeouts.

With the win, Dominican improves to 6-12 overall, while Pace falls to 11-8.

The Chargers are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Post University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's baseball action.  Game time is set for 3:30pm at Veteran's Memorial Field.
