NYACK WARRIORS SWEEP DOMINICAN CHARGERS

Nyack, NY (3/25/08) Nyack College won both games of a double header today against visiting Dominican College, 6-5 and 8-4. With the wins Nyack improves to 4-9 overall and 2-0 in the CACC. Dominican falls to 5-12 overall and 0-2 in the CACC.
In the first game Dominican struck first when Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) scored on an error by Nyack pitcher Derrick Gamble. Nyack answered with a 3 run 4th inning behind a double by Dan Marshall that drove in 3 of those runs. The Warriors followed that with a 2 run inning in the 5th to take a 6-2 lead. Dominican would score a run in the 6th and then made it interesting in the 7th. With two out and one man on Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) hit a homerun to bring the Chargers within a run, but Cody Levins came on and struck out the last batter to get the save.
Gamble pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up five
runs (four earned) on six hits while striking out seven to get the
win, which is his second of the year. DJ Stinsman
(Egg Harbor Twp, NJ) suffered the loss.
Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) went 1-3 with 2 RBI's for Dominican while Sean Brown (Massapequa, NY) and Willie Mann (Paterson, NY) each had 2 hits apiece. Dan Marshall was 1-3 with 3 RBI's for Nyack. Christian Almonte went 3-3 with an RBI while Levins and Phil Messerian each had 2 hits.
In the second game Nyack struck first this time when John Raebig scored on an RBI double from Levins. Dominican answered in the 3rd with RBI singles from Lopez and Maloney to take the lead 2-1. Nyack had two big innings scoring 4 in the 5th and 3 in the 6th to take back the lead for good at 8-2. Dominican scored 2 in the top of the 7th for the final score of 8-4.
Lopez was 3-3 with an RBI for the Chargers while Maloney went 1-3 with an RBI. Levins went 3-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Oscar Ortiz and Dan Marshall each had 3 hits. Marshall also drove in 3 runs.
Taylor Getzke got the win for Nyack going 6 innings and giving up 4 earned runs on 8 hits while striking out 7. Corey Murphy (Melville, NY) took the loss for the Chargers in 4 2/3 innings and allowing five runs on seven hits.
