NSU BASEBALL SUBDUES DOMINICAN COLLEGE BASEBALL 17-5

Sharks Collect 21 Hits as All Nine Starters Record At Least One Hit in Victory

Ft. Lauderdale, FL. (3/17/08) The Nova Southeastern University baseball team (16-10) subdued the Dominican College Chargers (2-5) by a 17-5 score on St. Patrick's Day at the NSU Baseball Complex. The Sharks pounded out 21 hits, as all nine batters in the starting lineup recorded at least one hit on the evening.

NSU centerfielder Matt Mindick (Boynton Beach, FL) led the attack going 2-for-5 with five RBI and a run scored, while freshman hurler Kevin McCourt (Hallandale, FL) picked up his third win of the season. McCourt (3-2) struck out seven Chargers, allowed three earned runs and seven hits in five innings of work.

The Sharks scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead and never turned back en rout to the convincing victory. NSU shortstop Dale Alberto (Davie, FL) was also 3-for-6 with two runs and an RBI and rightfielder Damon Marino (Jupiter, FL) went 3-for-6 with three runs and an RBI.

Dominican starter Tom Kahl (Bay Shore, NY) (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing nine runs on 11 hits over 3 ½ innings. NSU relievers Ricardo Martinez (Miami, FL) and Sean Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) allowed just one hit over the final four innings to preserve the lead for McCourt.

Freshman Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY) led the Chargers with two hits.

Sharks second baseman Nikko Echevarria (Abqaiq, KSA) first baseman Bryan Cook                  (Rockledge, Fla.), third baseman Eric McCans (So., Pembroke Pines, FL) and catcher Brandon Jacobs (Lake Worth, FL) each registered multiple hits in the contest.

The Chargers are back in action on Wednesday when they face Dowling College at 10am at Lynn University.
