CHARGERS BASEBALL LOSES TO C.W. POST PIONEERS

Brookville, NY (3/12/08)  The Dominican College baseball team dropped a non-conference game to host C.W. Post University Pioneers, 6-1 this afternoon in Holbrook, NY.

The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the fifth inning when Brian Chenicek (Levittown, NY) drew a one out walk.  Steve Algarroba (Astoria, NY) tripled to right center to score Chenicek and followed him in by an error by the center fielder for the 2RBIs and the 2-0 lead.

C.W. Post added a run in the seventh as Bruce Testa (Glen Cove, NY) singled to right to lead off the inning and later scored on an RBI ground out by Mike Sylvester (Farmingdale, NY).

The Chargers got on the board in the top of the eighth as freshman Jason Berrios (Brooklyn, NY) got on with a one out infield single, moved over to second on a single by senior Sean Brown (Massapequa, NY) and came into score on a throwing error by the Pioneer shortstop.

The Pioneers added three insurance runs in the bottom stanza on three hits, including a two run, two out double down the left field side by Sylvester for the 6-1 victory.

Brian Saldana (Deer Park, NY) improved his record to 2-1 after going 7 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, five walks and nine strikeouts.

Junior Brian Craig (Shenandoah, PA) suffered the loss to drop to 0-1 in five innings pitched and allowing two runs on two hits and three strikeouts.

The Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Florida for the annual Spring Break Trip.  The team will face Division I University of Pennsylvania at the Santaluces Complex in Boca Raton, Fl.  Game time is 1pm.
