Blauvelt, NY (4/2/07) Dominican College baseball player Joseph Catanese has been named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher announced by the conference office this afternoon. Keith Heck of Philadelphia University earned Player Of The Week Honors, while Richard Melendez of Felician College garnished Rookie Of The Week Honors.
Catanese, a senior right-hander from Huntington, NY,
picked up two wins last week, one as a starter and one in relief.
He went 7.2 innings against USP and fanned nine while allowing
three runs on Saturday. He earned a win in relief against Felician
on Monday, hurling 2.2 innings, fanning five and allowing one run.
He did not walk a batter during the week.
Heck, a senior first baseman from Cherry Hill, NJ, enjoyed an outstanding week for the Rams. He hit .458 for the week with a .1333 slugging percentage. He smacked seven home runs in six games, drove in 15 runs and scored nine times. He hit two home runs in a win over Nyack and drove in four runs twice. He notched at least one RBI in each game.
Melendez, a freshman infielder from Miami, FL, hit .480 in six games with a .480 on-base percentage. He drove in eight runs, including four in a 12-11 win over Wilmington. He scored twice, hit three doubles and stole one base.
Honorable Mention
Sean Brown, Dominican - Hit .391 in a 5-0 week for the Chargers. Stole seven bases, drove in six runs and scored four times. Also hit three doubles.
Brian Testa, Wilmington - Hit .389 in a 4-1 week for the Wildcats. Hit one home run, two doubles, five RBI's, scored eight times and stole one base.
