Mariot, Zani, McGrady And Cleary Named To NCBWA All-Region Team

 New Haven, CT (5/25/06) - Lino Mariot of Bloomfield College, Mike Zani of Dominican College and Ken McGrady and Dan Cleary of Wilmington College have been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-Northeast Region team.  Zani and McGrady were named to the first team and Mariot and Cleary were second team picks.

McGrady, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Pitcher of the Year, led the conference in wins with a 9-2 record, while also topping the list with a 1.98 ERA. The junior left-hander from Rising Sun, MD, fanned 60 batters in 72.2 innings and walked just 17.

Zani was a first team All-CACC performer after hitting .372 with eight doubles, one triple, 20 RBI and 31 stolen bases.  The senior outfielder from Goshen, NY, helped lead the Chargers to a 42-18 overall record this season, CACC regular-season and tournament championships and a spot in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Tournament.

Mariot, the CACC Player of the Year, finished the campaign second in the CACC with a .408 batting average and recorded 84 hits, 57 runs, 20 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 44 RBI. He also stole 44 bases in 48 attempts. The senior shortstop from Perth Amboy, NJ, was named to the All-CACC first team three times in his career.

Cleary, a senior outfielder from Milton, DE, was a first team All-CACC choice after batting .335 for the year with 38 runs scored, 13 doubles, five home runs and 42 RBI.

Shortstop Garrett Olson of Franklin Pierce College was named the NCBWA Player of the Year and Ryan Williams of Saint Anselm College was the choice for Pitcher of the Year. Bob Bellizzi of The College of Saint Rose and Frank Vieira of the University of New Haven shared Coach of the Year honors.

The NCBWA's Northeast Regional committee for 2006 is Doug Monson, Sports Information Director at Franklin Pierce (coordinator), Ken Johnson, Jr, SID at Saint Anselm, Chuck Sadowski, SID at New Haven, Jennifer Mischke, SID at Molloy, Tony Berich, Assistant AD/SID at Philadelphia and Bob Heller, Assistant AD/SID at USP.
